The Art of Persistence

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that talent alone isn’t what gets you where you want to go.

Persistence does.

Every artist, entrepreneur, and creative I’ve admired has one thing in common. They kept going long after things became difficult.

I’ve had more “jump off the cliff and build the airplane on the way down” moments than I can count. Starting my art business was one of them.

I knew nothing about running a business. Nothing about the art world. I didn’t have a website, social media, or a marketing plan. I didn’t know how to price my work, write a blog, or design promotional materials.

What I did have was curiosity.

So I learned.

I read books. I listened to podcasts. I took classes. I asked questions. I made mistakes, lots of them. Then I picked myself back up and tried again.

Every challenge became another lesson.

Looking back, I’m grateful I didn’t know how hard it would be. If I had waited until I felt ready, I might never have started.

Persistence isn’t about getting everything right.

It’s about refusing to let failure be the final answer.

One thing I’ve realized recently is that not everyone has the same desire to grow. Some people wait for circumstances to change. Others wait for someone else to show them the way.

I’ve discovered that I find the most joy in helping people who are willing to help themselves. People who are curious, open to learning, and willing to do the work. Those are the people who turn advice into action and setbacks into steppingstones.

Growth has never come from staying comfortable. It comes from taking the class, making the phone call, launching the website, entering the exhibition, introducing yourself to someone new, or saying yes before you feel completely prepared.

The truth is, confidence usually comes after the leap, not before it.

If there’s something you’ve been wanting to do, don’t wait until you have all the answers, you never will.

Take the first step.

You’ll make mistakes. You’ll change course. You’ll learn things you never expected.

And one day you’ll look back and realize that every challenge, every failure, and every leap of faith became part of the path that led you exactly where you were meant to be.

Persistence isn’t glamorous.

It’s simply choosing, over and over again, to keep moving forward, and learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.

And more often than not, that’s what makes the difference.

Final Thought

Creativity has a way of rewarding those who keep showing up. Not because the path is easy, but because growth belongs to the people willing to take one more step.
